I'm hosting a birthday dinner at my house next weekend. It's just family, nothing special, but the thing is the women in my family throw down for these types of things. We always rotate birthdays and holidays and come to think about it, I'm the youngest and the only one who works full time so this blows for me because I'm under some pressure to come up with some good food and I'm coming up with a big goose egg.
I could make chili or hot beef sandwiches, but I've done that already. My oven is not ideal. It's an old wall oven and not very big. Grilling is Mr. B's territory and he has made it clear that it is Out Of The Question.
What should I make? People will bring side dishes I just need to worry about the main dish and birthday cake, which I will order of course. What do you think? Something like this or do I call the caterer? (I'm not kidding. I am not above paying someone way too much for chicken if it spares me a moment or 700 of headache.)
Has anyone hosted any dinner parties lately? Or been to one where the food was good?
Help me.
